Technics SL-1210 MK5 Turntables

The Intro

Technics have raised the standard once again with the release of their latest DJ turntables: Technics SL-1210 MK5.

The Good

Technics have kept in all the upgrades that featured on the SL-1210 MK3 decks including the pitch reset button (so the pitch fader doesn't click into place at the zero spot), and added in a few extra nice ones that keeps them top of the pile when it comes to professional DJ turntables.

The body of the turntable now has its underside made from hard rubber providing excellent sound isolation. There's also a brake control feature which allows you adjust how long it takes to stop a tune with the break button..pretty cool for DJ's who like to throw a few different effects into their set...beats just switching the turntable off, at any rate.

In the advanced version the SL-1210 MK5G turntable, Technics have added a feature that brings them up to speed (literally) with other DJ turntable manufacturers such as Vestax, who have been incorporating wider pitch ranges into their turntables. The MK5G's will let go from +/-8% to +/-16% at the flick off a switch, giving the DJ greater versatility in the range of tunes he can play.

The Bad

I think the only criticism would be that they could have placed the pitch range switch slightly better; I managed to catch it a couple of times accidentally. That said, its not long before you get used to these beautiful updates on the famous Technics turntables.
